🪶 THE HAMMOCKS — ISLANDS OF LIFE

In the middle of the “River of Grass” lie small natural elevations called Hammocks.
Formed over centuries through sediment, wind, and the root systems of ancient trees.

These islands became the refuge of the Miccosukee when the modern world pushed them back.

Here they built their Chickees — wooden stilt houses with palm-leaf roofs, open to the air, lifted above floods and free from mosquitos.
They hunted, gathered, told stories, and studied nature until they understood it.
No electricity. No luxuries.
Just the knowledge that every sound, every movement, every creature is part of one living system.

🐊 THE LAND OF THE ALLIGATORS

Visitors expect to see alligators.
On our tour, you truly will see them.

Dozens of them —
some just eyes above the water,
others stretched out lazily in the sun.

They belong here. They have for millions of years.
And the Miccosukee live with them — not against them.

To outsiders, alligators look dangerous.
To the Miccosukee, they are spiritual guardians — beings of awareness and ancient power.
They believe respect, observation, and ritual create a silent agreement between humans and alligators:
Whoever understands the water is allowed to stay.

Beyond alligators, you may encounter the alligator snapping turtle —
ancient, armored, almost prehistoric.
Once endangered, now carefully protected in a Miccosukee repopulation initiative.
